Materials
All materials will be available on the class home page. You do not need to buy anything.
Attendance and participation
Attendance and participation are mandatory. Please let the instructor know if you're going to have to miss a class. More than three unexcused absences will result in a lower grade, and more than six unexcused absences may result in your not passing the class.
Projects and activities
This is a topics based class. We will use a variety of authentic English materials organized by topic as the basis for language input and discussion. You will be required to complete a significant amount of reading. You will also be required to watch and listen to a significant amount of audio and video material. It is your responsibility to communicate with your instructor and your classmates about content that you do not understand. This is meant to be an interactive, collaborative class. Passivity will result in a low grade and, more importantly, reduced learning.
Grading
Attendance and participation, including all presentations, role plays, and other activities related to our topics: 40%
Midterm: 30%
Final: 30%
